Artist Statement

This configuration of shapes in Intervals I, II, III indicates being in motion and is part of my research into ways of documenting sound visually. An interval is the distance between two things as well as the difference in pitch between two sounds. As a visual artist and singer, I am very much interested in tracking the differences between fluctuation and variation, and coordinating vocal tract actions in composition. How can I portray intervals differently so that they create a specific rhythm? As a dancer, I am interested in thinking in movement and repetition in order to establish a relation between sound and image. Creating separate dance phrases that can be repeated is an act of varying my intervals into a visual language.
